My Bucket List

I never heard of a bucket list before learning Blog Writing but now that I got to learn about it, it seems like a great idea even though it is a bit tragic thinking about my death.

01. First, I would like to buy my own house. I'd actually prefer an apartment in a big city since it might be difficult to keep the house clean if I live in a big one.

02. Second, I would like to publish a book. It always been a dream of mine to write a book and it would be fantastic if I could do it someday.

03. Third, I hope to collect albums if my favorite singers such as Taylor Swift and Coldplay. I've already began to collect some and I hope my collection will become larger someday.

04. I would also like to travel somewhere by myself. Whenever I take a trip, my parents arranged it most of the times. When I grow up, I want to take a trip to a place that has been fully planned by me.

05. It would be really nice if I can get a job that I wanted since it would be mean a lot for me to do the work that I love everyday.

06. I would also like to have a cat as a pet. Even though having a pet might cause me to have some responsibilities, I think I could live with that if I could live with a cat.

07. This is a bit strange, but I would like to taste snail. I heard that it is a delicacy in France and that it is actually delicious which makes me feel more eager to taste it.

 08. I would like to get a degree on cooking. I am usually horrible at cooking which stops me from making dishes even for myself. Since I seriously am bad at it, I would like to improve my skills in cooking.

09. I would like to go back to St. Louis, MO for a few days. It is a memorable place for me because I lived there for a while when I was young and I would love to meet my friends again.

10. My last wish on the bucket list is to memorize a book that I really love. If I memorize it, maybe I can recite it time to time for enjoyment.

Today, I've written about what I have on my bucket list and I really hope that I can achieve my wishes for my bucket list before my death.

Photo Essay : One Picture Every Day

I have various hobbies which I'm obsessed with. When I listed them down and examined them, I found an interesting idea that it can be related to traveling, which was one of my hobbies as well. In my photo essay, I would talk about activities that I enjoy related to traveling.

This is a picture of a burger from a store called Burgers in Paradise
First of all, I really love to eat. Specifically, even though there are a few certain foods that I loathe, most of the time, I like trying to taste different food. The burger tasted wonderfully and smelled delicious even though it was really big and I couldn't finish it.

This is a hotel that had unique features.

Secondly, I also love staying in hotels. Even though I can't argue with the fact that home is the best place, going to hotels is a great trip for me. I especially love the feeling of waking up in a room that I am not familiar with. Most of the rooms looked clean and pleasant unlike how my room usually looks.

This is a picture of sun rise that I don't exactly remember the place.

Thirdly, I enjoy seeing beautiful sights, certainly sights of nature. I think this activity is something that most people would enjoy because seeing these sights can make people feel peaceful and calm just like it does to me. For example, I love looking out at the beach because it is really beautiful and it always is a wonderful memory.

This is a book that I thought had an interesting title.

Reading is an old hobby of mine which was continued from my childhood. Reading books has brought one of the greatest joys to my life and I will always read no matter what happens in the future. When I read an interesting book, I feel excited and continue reading for many hours. I love reading on my bed.

Clouds always looked beautiful up in the sky.

Taking a trip on air is really like a special rest to me. Even though I feel very exhausted when I get on airplanes, I always had good memories of getting on airplanes. During a flight, I often hear loud sounds but it quiets down soom\n.

An album of Taylor Swift which I have recently bought.

I don't think I can live without music. I guess there is a bit of sarcasm in this sentence but listening to music makes me feel comfortable and I enjoy listening to it especially inside a car.I love to hear the genre of country and rock because I prefer listening to peaceful and soft sounds, but loud sounds, too.

This is a picture that I took when I was with my friend in a cafe.

I've already told you about my hobby of eating. I love eating sweets as well especially when I am accompanied by my friends and chat for some time. The taste of the sweets is very sweet and great.

In my photo essay, I have talked about my hobbies that can be done while traveling. I hope you enjoyed reading this and feel free to as any question.

Persuasive Writing

Reggie Park
804 KMLA Dormitory

8/5/2013

Dear students,

I am writing this letter because I believe young pupils should participate in GLPS if they get
a chance.

Many experts like Mr. Morgan, for example agree with me. I will explain reasons for this and give facts to support my opinion.

The first reason is because going to GLPS would be beneficial for students. According to Mr. Morgan, who has been a teacher at GLPS for nine years, said that GLPS would can be very helpful to the students. He also added that he love watching students do debate and prefer eating in the cafeteria than cooking that he enjoy GLPS a lot as well.

The second reason is because one can learn many subjects in GLPS. There are facts to show this is true. If you look at the site of GLPS (Click here to go to the site), it can be proven that one can enjoy great activities in GLPS.

The final reason is because one can experience living in a dormitory. There is a picture to
show this is true. (Click here to see where I've gotten the picture) It can be seen that one can have a unique experience of living in a dormitory.
As you can see, this is why I think students should come to GLPS.

Based on my arguments, I hope you will consider my point of view that young pupils should consider coming to GLPS if they get a chance.

Sincerely,
Reggie

One by One

One by One

In a small town called Swift, there lived many warm - hearted people who had great families, fabulous smiles, and everything they wanted. If there ever was a flaw, it was merely that some of them did not have a job.

Then, on one day, a fancy paper that says a famous scientist wants to hire three people to participate in his experiment appears at city hall.

The most astonishing part was that all the employer wanted them to do is to survive on an island that was known to be a popular tourist site. However, there was one requirement that needed to be concerned; that one should be from the town of Swift.

Amazingly, a rumor was told to friends, but only four people volunteered for the job.

One was Andrew Tucker. He was a young man with piercing eyes and he was the kind of person who would have been followed by many women going after him.

The second one was Claire Bets. She was a lively college student who went to Swift College. She got numerous set of eyes when people heard the news of her because she already had a part time job as a private teacher that paid her well.

The third volunteer was Ethan Red. He was a silly old man who always said that he used to   be a detective before retiring but no one believed him.

The last one was Emily Meyer. She was a best selling author who wrote many novels based on her life. The people of Swift  celebrated Emily to go to Reggie Island because they knew a good book can be expected from her adventure.

Even though the four very different people didn't have any connections or personal relationships, they had two things in common; tremor of excitement and a feeling of timorousness.

Andrew Tucker had an absolutely monotonous life before knowing about Reggie Island. If he was ever interested in ladies, it would have been a fabulous life but he never showed any signs of it which made the ladies who were smitten with him feel heavyhearted. Heading to the port of Swift, he daydreamed about his life in a state of tranquility.

Walking along a sidewalk with a old bag over his shoulders was Ethan Red. Recalling his glorious days as a detective, he was humming along a song that was sang by the street musicians. He began to wonder, would anything mysterious happen on Reggie Island? He hopes so, a life without a mystery would be so tedious.

Dark, bright, dark, and bright again. Emily Meyer continuously closed and opened her eyes to get things straight. She was going to Reggie Island. Wow, that beautiful island, she grabbed her notebook and a pen the moment she heard the news. She smiled with a secret thought.

When Claire Bets arrived at the port, two men and an old lady were waiting for her. They were talking excitedly about Reggie Island. Only if they try to prepare for this trip by at least reading the booklet. We are not kids going on a school trip. She hoped that they will behave better soon.

When the four volunteers got on the ship that will bring them to their destination, they were very surprised about how luxurious the ship was.

"She is a very nice one, indeed," said Ethan.

"I agree, but aren't the wines the most gorgeous ones? Such delicacies! Would some of you like to have a sip of wine?," said Andrew. Both of the ladies rejected the offer.

There sat two men drinking and talking together. Andrew was especially obsessed with drinking the wine. In fact, he was already dancing around without clear eyes.

"I think I had enough," said Ethan. Even though Ethan was gone, Andrew kept on drinking until he was seeing yellow sky instead of a black sky.

Then he walked and walked until he was very close to the sea and then he walked straight into it. Andrew was swallowed by the sea.

The next day, Andrew was no where to be seen. The others were dumbfounded when they heard the news of Andrew missing.

"Where could he possibly be? We checked every room and it could not be the employer who made him move since he isn't here as well," said Emily.

"I think I know what happened. There were foot prints on the deck. He probably slipped since he was drunk," said Ethan.

"Poor man, but he should've realised that drinking wine without the owner's permission won't do any good."

Even though there was a depressed atmosphere in the morning, eventually the conversation shifted to another topic.

"I guess we didn't have enough time to introduce ourselves last night. Well my name is Emily Meyer and you might have heard of me because I wrote quite a lot of books," said Emily.

"Wow, amazing! I never thought we'd have a writer here! No offense, but you must have earned a lot of money, so why are you here anyway?"

Emily shortly laughed and continued, "To write something, of course! It sounded like a great journey, didn't it?" After talking for few hours, they got really close to each other and Claire carefully spoke of something strange.

Looking over a booklet that explained about their visit to Reggie Island, she said "There is a little poem like story on the back of this booklet, it is written like this,"

Today, I fought with three other girls. We used to be friends, but not anymore. I was going to apologize to them afterwards, but one girl died at a swimming pool because there were no life guards. Another one died fighting against me. What should I do now? I was going to say sorry but there is no one left except me.

"That's a bit creepy, seems like a diary of someone," said Emily.

"Probably not, I mean why would one post a part of a diary on to a booklet? Especially stories like this seem unusual,"  said Claire.

"Okay, okay. It's no big deal isn't it? Let's just move on, shall we? We should respect the employer's interest, alright?"

Nodding to Ethan's opinion, they all went back to their rooms

After a few hours, Emily suddenly screamed.

"Oh my god! Someone stole my necklace!" Ethan came running after the scream.

"Huh, huh? What happened, miss?"

"I lost my dear necklace. It was a beautiful gift from my father."

"Do you have any idea where it is? You might have lost it."

"Probably not, I had it right here before taking a shower."

"Okay, miss. Maybe you should run down to find Claire to see if she has any idea where it is. I'll look around the room, I am used to these kind of situations."

Nodding quickly, Emily ran down to Claire's room  and told her about what happened.

Surprised to hear the news, she closed the book that she was reading and said, "Oh, dear. I hope you find it soon. By the way, is there any chance of someone stealing it? It surely can happen."

"Oh, I never thought of that," said Emily. Thinking for a while , she came up with a suspicion.

"By any chance, do you think Mr.Red might have stolen it? I mean, he is a humble man and he is looking through my room."

"It makes sense. Hearing your story it seems like there is no other reason why he would want to look at your room as wanting to hide something like his footprints."

Furious at  the thought that Mr. Red that they trusted was a thief, the ladies marched down the room. Ethan was just trying to find the necklace in Emily's room when he was suddenly faced with two set of cold stares.

Emily first started, "Be honest, did you steal my necklace? It is not a belonging of yours, so hand it back!"

Claire continued on, " I should've known that there was something wrong about you, spreading rumors that you used to be a detective while you were nothing but a poor man!"

Shocked and hurt, Ethan said, "Don't you dare to speak of false truth! I might have been a humble man but I never spoke of something false in my past. How could you treat me like this, I was merely trying to help you!"

Wrong, wrong, and wrong! If you are keep going to refuse to talk with me, just go in your way!," said Emily.

Leaving the room with a shocked face, he never came back again and never out of his room.

With two of the humorous men gone, there was only silence left between the two ladies. After a few tedious days, the news came by that only one person is invited to be a part of the experiment of the employer.

Even though Emily and Claire were in a state of exhaustion of handling so many tragic news, hearing this news made them upset.

Never ceasing to argue with each other all time long, the fight was unstoppable.

Movie Review

The Princess Bride (1987)

Last week, we watched a movie called "The Princess Bride" which was filmed by Rob Reiner in 1987. The genre is action and romance. The Princess Bride is about a man who tries to save and meet the woman that he loves. It was really interesting for me so I thought that I could write an essay about "The Princess Bride." In my movie report, I would like to talk about basic information about this movie and add my personal opinion.

In this move, there are various unique characters and settings. Specifically, the main characters of this movie are Buttercup (Robin Wright), Westley (Cary Elwes), Count Rugen, Miracle Max, Fezzik and many others. It is a story of Buttercup and Westley basically trying to fight the challenges together to find each other. There are many extraordinary settings in the movie as well, such as Forrest of Thieves, Cliffs of Insanity, fire swamp, and Pit of Despair. The Forrest of Thieves seemed especially peculiar animals were seen. For example, there were the rodents of an extraordinary size that attacked Westley once.

The plot is about Buttercup and Westley who was her farm boy falls in love. However, Westley had to leave and Buttercup hears the news of his death. So she almost marries the Prince Humperdinck even though she doesn't love him. One day, a man named Vizzini and his hunch men kidnaps her. However, a man with a mask comes after them and finally saves Buttercup. Later on, Buttercup discovers that he is Westley and they try to escape which they fail. Even though they face numerous challenges, they never keep trusting each other and then it has a happy ending.

Before watching the movie, I predicted that since this movie was made in 1987, this movie could be tedious for me and could make me drowsy as well. However, there were so many internal and external conflicts (especially between characters) that were unexpected that I closed my eyes in surprise countless times. O was also astonished and amazed at the same time while watching the movie because I thought it was unique how two very different genres fit perfectly in the movie. From watching the movie, I learned the lesson that true love is one of the most powerful elements in the world. Also, the qualities of leadership that I can learn from this movie is convincing one's enemy that one is a friend just like Westley had became close to Indigo and Fezzik. Overall, I think that the plot was very exciting and interesting and that the people who made this movie pulled a story that usually belong in a hard - cover book in to an amazing movie in a detailed way.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed watching this video and I would like to recommend this movie especially to the people who are interested in ancient tales.

Set : Goals

Today, at GLPS blog writing class, we watched a TED video about Matt Cutts, who talked about 30 - day challenges. It was really interesting because he talked about the positive effects of having a 30 - day challenge with examples from his own experiences. For example, he talked about losing weight by riding a bike on his way to work. If I were to plan to lose weight, riding a bike instead of taking other transportation would not be the first thing on my mind but the fact that he actually lost a lot of weight was interesting enough. Normally, we define the meaning of a goal as something that we can achieve. However, I personally believe it is more meaningful than that since merely having a goal does not guarantee that we'll get the results that we want. It is actually decided by how hard we try we try to achieve that goal. Thus, I've been wondering for ages trying to set three goals that are relevant, specific, and most importantly, goals that I have a chance of achieving.

Firstly, I would like to complete my homework before going to bed. Most of the time at GLPS, we have quite a lot of homework so we have no choice but to study until midnight. Even so, occasionally we still have some homework left that we cannot finish. This homework
were always a burden to me so I would like to set the goal of completing my homework before going to sleep. In order to achieve this goal,  I would make plans first, and try to follow the plans.

Secondly, I will try to eat less sweets. Since the day I arrived at KMILA, I wasn't even able to reach out for sweets. However, I have a desire to eat them if I get the chance. So I'd like to take the opportunity to cease eating sweets in GlPS. The steps that I need to achieve this goal are eating my meals on time and eating fruits or vegetables instead.

Thirdly, I would like to read books in my leisure time. As a typical middle schooler in Korea, it is really hard to find the right time to rest and read books. Since I am staying in GLPS, I think I should use time wisely and fine some time to read. The steps to achieving this goal are finishing all the work and finding a book that seems interesting.

In conclusion, I have set three 30 day goals which are completing homework, not consuming any sweets, and reading. I am intending to keep these goals and keep track of them, though I probably will have to face a lot of challenges if I am willing to achieve the goals.

Self - Introduction : Three things I know to be true

Hello, my name is Jiyoon Park, but most of the time people call me Reggie. I have three words about me which might sound peculiar but were true the last time I checked.
The first word is "bat." There's no need to compare bats to me to figure out the meaning. It is actually a nickname my friends have created for me because its pronunciation is similar to my Korean name.

The second word is "Juanita." This word is probably close to impossible to even guess so, I will just go on with the answer. Juanita was a name of a street that I used to live on while I was living in the States. It was such a memorable place for me that I had no choice but to include this.

Last but not least is "Taylor Swift." As most of you have figured out by now, AI am a big aficionado of her which is why I also added her to my list of three words.

I have no idea how to end my self - introduction, but I hope you enjoyed reading this, and it was a pleasure to share some facts about me about you. Thanks for reading. :)
