Movie Review

The Princess Bride (1987)

Last week, we watched a movie called "The Princess Bride" which was filmed by Rob Reiner in 1987. The genre is action and romance. The Princess Bride is about a man who tries to save and meet the woman that he loves. It was really interesting for me so I thought that I could write an essay about "The Princess Bride." In my movie report, I would like to talk about basic information about this movie and add my personal opinion.

In this move, there are various unique characters and settings. Specifically, the main characters of this movie are Buttercup (Robin Wright), Westley (Cary Elwes), Count Rugen, Miracle Max, Fezzik and many others. It is a story of Buttercup and Westley basically trying to fight the challenges together to find each other. There are many extraordinary settings in the movie as well, such as Forrest of Thieves, Cliffs of Insanity, fire swamp, and Pit of Despair. The Forrest of Thieves seemed especially peculiar animals were seen. For example, there were the rodents of an extraordinary size that attacked Westley once.

The plot is about Buttercup and Westley who was her farm boy falls in love. However, Westley had to leave and Buttercup hears the news of his death. So she almost marries the Prince Humperdinck even though she doesn't love him. One day, a man named Vizzini and his hunch men kidnaps her. However, a man with a mask comes after them and finally saves Buttercup. Later on, Buttercup discovers that he is Westley and they try to escape which they fail. Even though they face numerous challenges, they never keep trusting each other and then it has a happy ending.

Before watching the movie, I predicted that since this movie was made in 1987, this movie could be tedious for me and could make me drowsy as well. However, there were so many internal and external conflicts (especially between characters) that were unexpected that I closed my eyes in surprise countless times. O was also astonished and amazed at the same time while watching the movie because I thought it was unique how two very different genres fit perfectly in the movie. From watching the movie, I learned the lesson that true love is one of the most powerful elements in the world. Also, the qualities of leadership that I can learn from this movie is convincing one's enemy that one is a friend just like Westley had became close to Indigo and Fezzik. Overall, I think that the plot was very exciting and interesting and that the people who made this movie pulled a story that usually belong in a hard - cover book in to an amazing movie in a detailed way.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed watching this video and I would like to recommend this movie especially to the people who are interested in ancient tales.

Set : Goals

Today, at GLPS blog writing class, we watched a TED video about Matt Cutts, who talked about 30 - day challenges. It was really interesting because he talked about the positive effects of having a 30 - day challenge with examples from his own experiences. For example, he talked about losing weight by riding a bike on his way to work. If I were to plan to lose weight, riding a bike instead of taking other transportation would not be the first thing on my mind but the fact that he actually lost a lot of weight was interesting enough. Normally, we define the meaning of a goal as something that we can achieve. However, I personally believe it is more meaningful than that since merely having a goal does not guarantee that we'll get the results that we want. It is actually decided by how hard we try we try to achieve that goal. Thus, I've been wondering for ages trying to set three goals that are relevant, specific, and most importantly, goals that I have a chance of achieving.

Firstly, I would like to complete my homework before going to bed. Most of the time at GLPS, we have quite a lot of homework so we have no choice but to study until midnight. Even so, occasionally we still have some homework left that we cannot finish. This homework
were always a burden to me so I would like to set the goal of completing my homework before going to sleep. In order to achieve this goal,  I would make plans first, and try to follow the plans.

Secondly, I will try to eat less sweets. Since the day I arrived at KMILA, I wasn't even able to reach out for sweets. However, I have a desire to eat them if I get the chance. So I'd like to take the opportunity to cease eating sweets in GlPS. The steps that I need to achieve this goal are eating my meals on time and eating fruits or vegetables instead.

Thirdly, I would like to read books in my leisure time. As a typical middle schooler in Korea, it is really hard to find the right time to rest and read books. Since I am staying in GLPS, I think I should use time wisely and fine some time to read. The steps to achieving this goal are finishing all the work and finding a book that seems interesting.

In conclusion, I have set three 30 day goals which are completing homework, not consuming any sweets, and reading. I am intending to keep these goals and keep track of them, though I probably will have to face a lot of challenges if I am willing to achieve the goals.

Self - Introduction : Three things I know to be true

Hello, my name is Jiyoon Park, but most of the time people call me Reggie. I have three words about me which might sound peculiar but were true the last time I checked.
The first word is "bat." There's no need to compare bats to me to figure out the meaning. It is actually a nickname my friends have created for me because its pronunciation is similar to my Korean name.

The second word is "Juanita." This word is probably close to impossible to even guess so, I will just go on with the answer. Juanita was a name of a street that I used to live on while I was living in the States. It was such a memorable place for me that I had no choice but to include this.

Last but not least is "Taylor Swift." As most of you have figured out by now, AI am a big aficionado of her which is why I also added her to my list of three words.

I have no idea how to end my self - introduction, but I hope you enjoyed reading this, and it was a pleasure to share some facts about me about you. Thanks for reading. :)
